Bocceball: A fun thing to do with friends and colleagues

Yesterday my work group went on a retreat in Los Gatos and had a great time playing bocce ball at Campo Di Bocce .  If you haven't done this, I'd recommend it as it's a unique, relaxing and fun activity. 

In the 1950's, my family built a house in Lafayette, Calif. on a lot that had an authentic and lovely &nb sp;bocce ball court in back.  We always used it as a horseshoe pi t  but now I wish we'd learned how to play bocce ball as it's a much more interesting game and can easily include many more people. 

Bocce ball is sort of a cross between bowling, golf and billiards with t he players attempting to come the closest to the target ball w/o hitting th e backboard which puts your ball out of play.  The pace is relaxed and at the place I was at yesterday, there's time for conversation and&nbs p;sipping in between plays. 

It's an ancient game with several  permutations including another very cool game called Petanque.
